Protecting Yourself From Jugging

Loading Image...

Constable Ted Heap and his deputies are here to ensure your safety. They want to inform you about bank "jugging," a crime they see periodically in this area.

Bank jugging is when suspects follow people who may be carrying large sums of money as they are leaving the bank to go home or to another business. These criminals wait for an opportunity to break into your car or truck or commit armed robbery, stealing your money.

There are several ways you can protect yourself:

• Be discreet: Conceal bank bags and envelopes when leaving financial institutions. Avoid drawing attention to yourself.

• Park smart: Choose well-lit areas close to the bank entrance. Keep doors locked and windows up when inside your vehicle.

• Awareness matters: Stay alert to suspicious activities around you. Report any unusual behavior to local authorities immediately.

Remember, your safety is their top priority! Stay cautious, share this message with loved ones, and together, they can prevent bank jugging. #SafetyFirst #CommunityProtection #constabletedheap #yourconstable

Great tips for everyone. I know that ATM's are very convenient but usually we try to avoid them and go directly inside the bank. Individuals don't know what you are going in for compared to driving straight up to an ATM machine. Look around and keep an eye on your surroundings.

We never use an ATM and prefer going inside the bank lobby for all transactions. Even then, we are cautious when leaving the bank and stay aware of our surroundings. If we thought someone was following us, we would immediately call the Police/Constables; then drive directly to the nearest Police Station, or wherever there are a lot of people. When in doubt, don't go straight to your house.

Always be aware of your surroundings not just at a bank but every where. Always look for a way out , No matter what you are doing. If you are not going into a bank you should be carrying. If you do not have one go to a range that has instructors and rents. Learn how to use one and if you carry be prepared to use it to defend your self. If a criminal thinks they might get shot they will look for someone else. JMO

@Olzman2 : If your bank has 30.06 signage (no licensed handguns allowed), then you should change banks. I bank at Chase, where legal, licensed concealed handguns are not banned. I carry my 9mm everywhere, avoiding places that only allow criminals to be armed!

BTW, if you drive home from the bank (with windows up and doors locked), pull into your garage, close the garage door with your remote, and THEN get out of the car. I have a friend who preached that to his wife for a long time. She ignored him (big surprise) and one day did have someone enter her garage as she was getting out of the car with the garage door still open. My friend's wife got lucky, as my friend heard the garage door open and walked into the garage to assist with packages. He was armed, and immediately saw the intruder and asked out loud, "Can I help you with something?"

The perp ran away. My friend called HPD via 911 (he is in Houston) but nothing came of it. Had he not been there and armed...who knows? In fact, the "intruder" might have been a solicitor for solar panels or landscape maintenance, but he could just as easily have been an armed criminal. My friends, the 1950's are gone. Don't assume any place, any time, is safe.
