More monarchs on the way!
I thought for sure the season was done and then BAM 20 caterpillars lol
I lost a few but hopefully these all transform fine! They ate all my milkweed and the local nursery didnt have any left. But they rid give me some trimmings of their milkweed plant to help keep the caterpillars full. Then as a last resort I used butternut squash and it worked! Now we wait.

Wow!!! This are pretty amazing. Great job!!! I did not know you had to cover them. I really need to do some research on these and try them next year.

@Fiona: oh you dont have to haha but I do because I worry they get too hot. I keep them in a habitat to protect them from predators and have found it helps quite a bit. I searched habitats on Amazon and waited until I found ones that were under $15! Most habitats are $20+. My biggest issue right now are ants attacking the chrysalis. I've put the entire habitat into a container with water to prevent the ants from getting to the habitat and spinkled cinnamon to ruin their trails. I think some ants are still in the planter itself so I try to just squish em as I see em. I have learned a lot since I started doing it this season. Most people just let nature run its course though haha

@candiceemoe :
A habitat sounds great to keep the predators from eating them. What does your habitat look like?

@AJ: its very basic, just a white mesh box from amazon haha if you look them up you'll see exactly what I have likely! Unfortunately it does not prevent ants which like to eat the defenseless chrysalis. So I am really trying my best to keep the ants away. Despite being a very tight mesh, the ants manage to still get in

Y'all are all doing wonderful with these monarch butterflies. I love plants and nature but not sure how much of a green thumb I have. Besides that, it is hard to find time to dedicate to the garden.

@candiceemoe :
Thank you. Those look great!! Would Amdro Ant Bait sprinkled around the outer base of the mesh habitat work? Or, maybe Diatomaceous Earth?
