Parents must complete the online registration in order for their child to be screened for eligibility. The Katy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program follows the state Pre-K guidelines, which focus on oral language development, reading and math readiness, as well as science and social studies knowledge and skills. The Legislature established the prekindergarten program with the intent to provide early learning experiences to students who are most in need. The Legi​slature believed that a high-quality prekindergarten program could mitigate the impact of the at-risk characteristics, thereby assisting students to become school-ready when they enter kindergarten. Katy ISD offers a prekindergarten program for eligible students who turn 4 years of age on or before September 1st of the school year in which they intend to enroll. Families will be contacted in the order that their online registration is received. Due to safety precautions related to the COVID-19 Emergency, the District is only able to assess a limited number of students at a time. All students will be pre-screened prior to entering the testing site. Parents will be asked to complete a Pre-Screening form verifying that the child is symptom-free. Parents or guardians must provide transportation to and from school. Prekindergarten is not a mandatory program. However, if your child qualifies and is enrolled, he/she is subject to compulsory attendance law. Your child must attend school each day, Monday - Friday.
